KWARTON MANYA BOOK 1 COMPELET

That night, when he came in, she served him water, but she was visibly unhappy. He accepted it, sipping while studying her face, which was deeply swollen and puffy. He quickly set the cup down. "What happened to your face, Baby?" She lowered her head. "It’s nothing." He said, "I don’t believe you. You've been crying, haven't you?" She looked up, and the tears she had been trying to suppress spilled over. He took her hand, and they sat down. "Are you crying now just because I said you shouldn't go back to school? Baby, I want you to get your education even more than you do, because I made a promise to stand by you until you yourself say you are tired of studying. But right now, even leaving the pregnancy aside entirely, when exactly were you discharged from the hospital? You haven’t fully recovered yet." She replied, "Uncle, even at school, I will take good care of myself." He remained silent, looking at her; he absolutely loathed seeing the girl in distress. He gave in, "Alright, stop crying. You will go back, but only after you have recovered a bit more, and only when I see that you are eating well." She agreed, "Okay, Uncle, I will make sure to eat." From then on, Aisha forced herself to be strong just so she would be allowed to return to school. However, her pregnancy continued to cause severe morning sickness, making her highly selective and picky with food, on top of making her easily irritable. One morning, she asked Uncle to bring her some African star apples (agwaluma) when he returned. He replied, "Where on earth am I going to find agwaluma right now? I don't think there is a single one to be found in all of Katsina, but I will have someone look for it." Throughout that day, he deployed four different people all over the area, searching high and low for the fruit. Meanwhile, she kept calling his phone to check. Ultimately, the following day, some were purchased in Kano and brought in a black plastic bag. He sent Jabiru to rush it home; the driver arrived at 3:00 PM and found her eating ice chunks and drinking watermelon juice. He scolded gently, "Baby, why are you eating ice? I don't ever want to see you doing that again." She murmured an okay. When he placed the bag of agwaluma before her, he stepped aside to watch her. She dashed over, fetched water from the fridge to wash the fruit, and began eating ravenously, moving from hand to mouth in pure delight. Filled with deep pity for her, he said, "Baby, I don't want you running around like that. You know your pregnancy isn't fully stable yet." She promised, "I’ll stop."
The next day, she craved moringa leaves (zogale). He phoned his mother’s house (Hajiyarmu), and a large quantity was brought over, which she spent the entire day eating. It was these erratic cravings that kept Uncle worried about how she would manage at a boarding school, where they wouldn't allow daily external care. The school authorities had already informed him during his weekend visits that special allowances were made only because of his status, and she was currently his most prized treasure. Furthermore, many people were advising him to guard her very closely due to the high risks of enemies or kidnappers targeting wealthy targets for ransom. These dangerous realities made him hesitate about letting her return, but he knew her school had excellent security. Above all, he trusted that through his constant prayers, Almighty God would protect his unborn child.

Amidst this situation, one night while Aisha was lying down in her room, Uncle was in his own quarters. Today was Hadiza's cooking turn, and Aisha knew that no matter how late it got, he would eventually return to Hadiza's room, so she chose not to turn her door key. She waited until well past 1:00 AM, but the house remained dead silent. Growing heavily drowsy, she finally locked her door, lay down, and began reciting her bedtime prayers. Before she could even finish them, a deep sleep completely overtook her. Deep in her sleep, a massive, terrifying cat approached her, and they began a violent, frantic struggle. She fought back fiercely while reciting every prayer that came to her mind. The cat was desperately trying to claw at her navel, but God did not grant it success. They tore into each other wildly; the cat scratched Aisha all over, though she also managed to injure the beast. She woke up terrified, gasping out prayers. To her horror, she saw the massive, grotesque cat sitting right on the vanity dresser beside her bed! It lunged at her again. Overcome with absolute terror, she let out a piercing scream, swung at the cat with a pillow, and bolted out of bed. Looking around wildly because she couldn't tell where the cat had vanished to, she ran toward the door in absolute panic, chanting praises to God. The moment she flung the door open, Uncle came rushing out of his room—he was running because her scream was so loud that no one in the estate could have missed it.
As she made a dash for the exit, he quickly grabbed her. She let out another piercing scream, struggling violently to wrench herself free. To his utter shock, she possessed a strange, supernatural strength. As she fought to break away, he barely managed to overpower her, pinning her hands and feet to the floor. He began reciting and blowing protective prayers over her, until she finally went completely limp. He carried her back toward her room, but the moment they stepped inside, she began screaming frantically again. He quickly carried her back out to the living room sofa, laying her down while continuously reciting prayers over her.
Hajiya Jummai was peeking at them through her window, just as Hadiza was watching them from his living room balcony. Hajiya Jummai quickly rushed outside, calling out, "What is happening, Alhaji?" He replied, "Wallahi, I only rushed out because I heard her screaming." She knelt beside them, asking, "Aisha, what happened?" But Aisha could only let out deep, agonizing groans of weeping. As he continued to pray over her, Hadiza also came out, and they all stood around in a tense circle. Jummai muttered pseudo-prayers under her breath, blowing over her, but inside their hearts, both co-wives were secretly rejoicing. Each assumed that her own black magic plot had finally succeeded. Before dawn arrived, Aisha suddenly grew completely still, her groans ceasing entirely as she became motionless.
During the night, he had called his father (Alhajinmu) to inform him. He asked if they should proceed to the hospital, but Alhajinmu advised him to wait until morning. Right after completing the dawn prayer, Alhajinmu arrived at the house—he couldn't even remember the last time he had visited his son's estate until today.
When he arrived, Uncle and the others had just returned from the mosque. Uncle looked completely disheveled and worn out, dressed in a white jellabiya. Alhajinmu stared down at Aisha, who lay there as limp as water. He looked at his son. "Abubakar, how exactly did this happen?" Uncle replied, "I don't even know myself. I just heard her screaming and rushed out. When I caught her and tried to take her back into her room, she went wild with screaming."
Hajiya Jummai cut in, "Could it be a nightmare? My goodness." Uncle added, "If you had seen the way we wrestled—it was with great difficulty that I managed to get her to the ground and start praying over her." Alhajinmu turned toward the exit, and Uncle followed him out.
Once outside in the courtyard, the father turned to face his son.
"To be honest, Abubakar, I don't believe this girl's condition is medical. This is not a hospital matter; we need spiritual scholars (Malamai)." Uncle asked, "So, what do we do now?" Alhajinmu instructed, "The best thing to do is to put her in the car and take her over to our family house. May God guide us."
Uncle gently lifted her limp body and laid her across the back seat of the car. Hajiya Jummai asked, "Are you taking her to the hospital?" He replied, "No," without pausing for any lengthy explanations, and climbed into the vehicle, his anxiety reaching its absolute peak. Jummai and Hadiza stood by the car, saying, "May God grant her relief." Alhajinmu climbed into the front seat, and the driver pulled away as the co-wives chorused, "May God ease her suffering." Alhajinmu called out to them, "Go back inside, do you hear? Don't worry, God will bring relief."
Back at the family house, his mother (Hajiyarmu) sat in deep anxiety, wondering what state the poor girl was in. She was waiting for her husband's return to get an update when they finally entered with greetings. Uncle was cradling Aisha in his arms, and she looked completely lifeless. She jumped up in shock, exclaiming, "What on earth is this?" Uncle laid her gently on the sofa. Hajiyarmu rushed over, blowing prayers over her. Alhajinmu explained, "I suspect this is a case of demonic possession (jinn), which is why I insisted we bring her here. I am going straight to Malam Yakubu so he can come and examine her." They agreed. Uncle sat down to greet his mother, and Hajiyarmu responded with deep sorrow, asking, "How did it come to this?" He explained everything he knew, and her heart broke for them. She resumed her prayers. Soon, Alhajinmu returned accompanied by Malam Yakubu and another spiritual healer, Malam Sufi. They sat around her, reciting powerful prayers. As she lay there motionless, Malam Sufi began loudly chanting the Holy Qur'an, specifically Surah Al-Baqarah. She began to twitch. He moved closer, raising his voice, and she suddenly began to groan and weep in a strange, altered voice. Malam Yakubu joined in the recitation. Immediately, she began to thrash about violently. They ordered, "Hold her down!" Uncle pinned her down firmly as she thrashed. The healers demanded, "Who are you?" A deep, booming voice spoke through her, "It is I." "Who are you?" "It is I, umm! Umm!" They commanded, "Speak! Who are you?" The voice answered, "My name is Sulaiman." They demanded, "What brought you into her body?" The entity fell silent. Malam Sufi intensified his recitation while Malam Yakubu interrogated, "Won't you speak?" The entity cried out, "You are burning me! I will leave!" "Tell us first, what did you come to do to this servant of Allah?" The entity confessed, "I was sent! I was commanded to cause her to bleed and abort her pregnancy!" They asked, "Are you a Muslim?" It replied, "Yes." "Do you believe in Allah and the Day of Resurrection?" It answered, "Yes, I believe." "Then why did you come to harm her?" It said, "I was forced to." "Who sent you?" It revealed, "My master. He is a sorcerer, and my parents and I are entirely under his control." They said, "Will you leave now, or should we continue the recitation?" It pleaded, "I will leave!" They instructed, "Exit through her mouth or her nose, and fear the Day you will stand before your Creator. Even if you are not of the same species, there will be a strict accounting between you, understand?" It replied, "Yes." They commanded, "Hurry up and exit!" Instantly, she sneezed violently twice. Shortly after, she opened her eyes and stared blankly at the ceiling. Uncle called out, "Aisha?" Hearing her husband's voice, she tried to sit up. He held her and assisted her to a sitting position. She looked around at them in utter bewilderment. She looked at Uncle. "What happened, Uncle?" He replied, "Nothing, it's okay," as they all extended words of comfort to her. Alhajinmu watched in sheer amazement, as if listening to a fable. Hajiyarmu actually wept out of pure pity, feeling that people had been deeply unfair to her son—after so many years of marriage, he finally received a blessing, yet someone was trying to destroy it. As for Uncle, his only focus was her recovery; he left the entire matter in God's hands, praying daily for guidance and placing his case before Allah against whoever sought to destroy his happiness.
The healers prescribed spiritual remedies, including black seed (habbatus sauda), olive oil, and powdered sidr leaves (magarya). They instructed that she must consistently perform her morning and evening supplications (azkar) and constantly listen to Qur'anic recitations.
Alhajinmu and Uncle escorted the healers out with deep gratitude and generous financial gifts. Hajiyarmu then drew close to Aisha, who was leaning against the sofa, her entire body aching. She wanted to know how she had ended up at Hajiyarmu’s house. "My dear, I hope you are feeling better?" Aisha lifted her head. "Would you like to take a bath?" Aisha shook her head no. "I feel very sleepy." Hajiyarmu said, "Go ahead and sleep right here, let me get you a pillow." Luba, the domestic helper, walked in and asked, "Hajiya, the food is ready, should I bring it?" Hajiyarmu replied, "No, let Alhajinmu and the others return first. Just go fetch her a pillow." Before the pillow could even arrive, Aisha had already fallen fast asleep. It was only after Hajiyarmu insisted that Uncle finally went back to his estate.
Meanwhile, Jummai's heart was overflowing with joy, praying that the girl would lose her life. She was determined to return to the sorcerer for further works because the initial attack had worked so well. Hadiza was also sprawling across her bed, gossiping on the phone with Hajiya Lanti. "Honestly, that spiritualist is highly effective. I think he even unleashed powerful demons on her. My only hope now is that the pregnancy is completely gone, especially since you should have seen the wild wrestling match she had with our husband! He has rushed her out of the house now." Hajiya Lanti replied, "I hope to God they went to a hospital. You know how spirits operate—when the medical solution goes east, the spirit goes west, wreaking havoc while they waste time on hospital treatments." They burst into malicious laughter. A person who has gone too far down the wrong path is deaf to warnings.
When Alhaji Saddiq returned to his estate, he witnessed a sight he had never seen before: Jummai and Hadiza were sitting together, chatting amicably. This deeply warmed his heart, as he assumed that Aisha's critical illness had made them set aside their differences out of shared sympathy for the girl. They both stood up to approach him, asking eagerly, "How is the patient?" He replied, "She is much better." Hadiza asked, "Which hospital did you take her to?" He explained, "She is at Hajiyarmu’s house. She has fully regained consciousness, and I left her sleeping soundly." Jummai pressed, "Alhamdulillah! But Alhaji, the pregnancy wasn't harmed, right?" He replied, "I don't think there's any issue with it." She forced a smile. "We thank God, that was my main concern." Hadiza added, "We are very fortunate. May God grant her full health." He headed to his room, and the women retired to their respective quarters, deeply frustrated that things hadn't gone their way. As Aisha's health steadily improved, she continued to sleep in Hajiyarmu's room. Aisha's heart grew deeply attached to Hajiyarmu. Every time she woke up, she would find this pious woman on her prayer mat. Out of mutual respect, she felt too shy to ask if Hajiyarmu ever slept; instead, whenever she woke up and found Hajiyarmu worshipping, she would also get up and join her in prayers. This beautiful bond made Hajiyarmu love Aisha deeply in her heart. She was now fully convinced that her son had finally found a true wife—the kind of wife she had prayed for him to have since his childhood.
Aisha possessed immense modesty and a deep love for Islam, and she maintained a respectful distance from her in-laws. Yet, this didn't stop her from sitting close to Hajiyarmu. Whenever her Uncle visited, she could hardly speak to him out of shyness in front of his mother. Instead, she would quietly get up, head to the kitchen, and respectfully serve him cold water. Whenever he said, "Baby, I haven't eaten today," she would personally go fetch his meal rather than letting the maid do it. This deeply pleased Hajiyarmu—in stark contrast to Jummai, who, despite being her niece, wouldn't even drink water from their house, and would openly mock and make faces at her husband in front of them, completely disregarding the fact that they were his parents.
Uncle would always stop by to see her on his way to the office and on his way back, and he would call her phone more than ten times a day. Her consistent plea was for him to leave her at Hajiyarmu's house, where she felt entirely at peace. He, however, refused, complaining that he couldn't even enjoy a proper conversation with her, let alone hold her and enjoy her company. She countered, "Whatever you want, I will do it for you, but Hajiyarmu's house is also home." He joked, "The problem is whenever I visit, you just sit tightly beside Hajiyarmu, and you barely answer my questions." She teased, "Well, Uncle, if I don't act that way, what do you expect me to do?" He smiled, "Don't you women have your little clever ways? You could easily slip into a bedroom, and I would follow you inside." She gasped in shock. "Oh my goodness! Honestly, I am far too shy for that." He countered, "What about coming out to sit with me in the car when I'm leaving?" She laughed, "Oh, Uncle! I'm just too embarrassed." He concluded, "Well, I certainly can't leave you here indefinitely. In a few days, we are returning home." In a pampered tone, she pleaded, "Oh, please, my Uncle!" He insisted, "I swear, my Baby." She teased, "Fine, but if you come and don't find me in the living room, don't you dare come into the bedroom!" He laughed, "Do you ever see me barging into Hajiyarmu's bedroom? Let alone trying to pull off any moves in there! In fact, when there are people around, she used to chase me out of her room ever since I was a little boy. I honestly think Hajiyarmu doesn't love me, which is why I feel so sorry for myself—especially since I haven't been blessed with a wife who will freely embrace me."
Aisha felt deep pity for him and said, "Come on, Uncle. How can you say that when you have three wives?" He sighed, "None of you truly care about me. Hajiya Jummai is never even around to know my problems. As for Hadiza, her extreme materialism makes it impossible for me to fully relax around her. And you, Baby, your shyness is just way too much." She promised, "Alright, I will work on it." He smiled, "Thank you."
After she had spent two weeks there, Uncle informed Alhajinmu that since she had recovered, he wanted her to return home. On the day Aisha was to leave, she actually wept, insisting she preferred staying at Hajiyarmu's house. It was Hajiyarmu who comforted her and urged her to be strong and return to her matrimonial home, advising her to double down on her prayers.
Jummai and Hadiza had only visited her once during her illness, and seeing her fully recovered had filled them with intense frustration. Although they hid their wicked deeds from each other—meaning neither openly admitted to the other that she was visiting witch doctors—they both strongly suspected one another. From that visit onward, they didn't return until she finally moved back home. They merely stepped into her room to extend a brief greeting, which Aisha accepted with polite thanks.

By a special grace of God, Aisha recovered completely. Uncle took her to see a doctor, who examined her and confirmed that the pregnancy was entirely healthy and intact. He then met privately with the doctor to ask if it was safe for them to resume marital intimacy. The doctor assured him there was absolutely no problem. Consequently, on the very day they returned from the hospital around 4:00 PM, he securely locked the door and began initiating passionate romance with her. Despite her lingering anxiety over the severe pains she had suffered previously—and her fear that she might experience them again—she didn't let her apprehension show. To her relief, she didn't experience any of the pain she had feared. From that day forward, she truly entered the active ranks of the women of the house, and it was only now that she truly understood the real weight of co-wife jealousy.
Consequently, she became even more determined to treat him exceptionally well. On any day it was her turn to be with him, she would personally enter the kitchen to cook his favorite meals, paired with chilled Zobo drink. Whenever he desired her, she never frowned or played hard to get, giving him all the enthusiastic support he deserved. This made her status soar even higher in his heart, completely surpassing his other wives, to the point where he would eagerly count down the days until her rotation came around again. Whatever she requested now was granted instantly. When she brought up the subject of school, mentioning that she had missed a lot of classes, he promised to speak with their Principal (P.C.) to see what could be arranged. When he met with the Principal and explained her health challenges regarding the exams, requesting some assistance, the Principal agreed that she could be driven in for essential dates or whenever there was a crucial academic requirement. Although it wasn't a perfect arrangement, she was thrilled with the compromise and immediately resumed her schooling.
Meanwhile, Jummai and Hadiza began gossiping bitterly, claiming that simply because she was pregnant, he was openly flaunting his favoritism for her in front of absolutely everyone. Consequently, both wives sunk into deep resentment, throwing tantrums while frantically redoubling their search for black magic solutions. This choice of theirs to completely neglect and ignore him gave him the perfect opportunity to fully enjoy his honeymoon phase with Aisha—an intimacy he hadn't experienced in the past.
On her cooking days, he would intentionally stay late at the office just to return early to her quarters. Looking into the mirror, he would boast, "Baby, you know I look exceptionally handsome, right? Or haven't you noticed?" She would smile, "But Uncle, you are always handsome. Everything about you is perfect." He teased, "Does that include my little Baby?" She replied, "Oh, I shouldn't even be counted among beautiful people." He countered, "Says who? Do you ever look in the mirror? Baby, to this day, I have never seen anyone as breathtakingly beautiful as you." Amidst this bliss, her final exams commenced. She had to stay back in the school dormitory to study alongside her friends, Samira and the others. Her friends constantly teased her, demanding to know what kind of illness had suddenly made her look so extraordinarily beautiful, with filled-out hips and a noticeably fuller chest. She simply laughed it off, claiming it was just the result of staying at home, noting that home rest couldn't be compared to school stress. However, in her heart, she resolved that on their graduation day, she would finally reveal to them that she was Uncle's wife. They continued writing their exams until they finally finished. On their graduation day, they took numerous photographs and exchanged phone numbers with all their classmates. When it was time to part ways, Uncle arrived to pick her up. Samira and the others told her, "Whenever you are getting married, make sure you invite us!" She laughed and replied, "Well, you'll probably have to wait for my baby shower instead!" She then dropped the bombshell, revealing that she had promised to tell them today that Uncle was actually her husband. They all gasped in absolute shock and bewilderment. She added, "In fact, I am currently three months pregnant. I will let you know when I give birth, and I am eagerly waiting to hear about your own weddings when the time comes!" With that, they shared emotional goodbyes, deeply missing each other.
She returned home, and they continued to live in absolute marital bliss. Uncle pampered her immensely, and she paid no attention to the schemes of Hajiya Jummai, especially now that Jummai had formed an alliance with Hadiza. They had joined forces, frequently sitting together in the main living room alongside Suwaiba to throw pointed, sarcastic insinuations at her—especially on her cooking days. They would loudly gossip, saying things like, "What a pathetic display, cooking for a husband when a real, senior wife is right here!" while another would chime in, "Of course, when someone relies entirely on charms and submissive acts to manipulate a man, what do you expect?" Despite hearing their constant chatter, Aisha completely ignored them and never reported a single word to her husband. Amidst this ongoing tension, on a certain Monday around 1:30 PM, Uncle left his office work entirely just to rush home and see her and his unborn child. She was lying down with her head resting on his lap. He gently caressed her stomach and remarked, "Baby, I notice this stomach of yours is refusing to grow big so you can start waddling around. I am so impatient to see that stage." She laughed, "But Uncle, the pregnancy is barely three months old!" He lifted her shirt slightly; her lower abdomen was completely flat, showing no visible sign of a pregnancy. He teased, "Seriously, what kind of pregnancy is this? Has it not grown at all, Baby?" Before she could even formulate a response, Hajiya Jummai suddenly violently barged through the door without even offering a greeting. She yelled, "So it's absolutely true! I was told you constantly come here to betray our rights. Today isn't even her turn to have you, and this isn't your closing hour from work, yet you snuck out just to sneak back here!" He simply stared at her silently until she finished her tirade, then looked at her calmly. "For God's sake, Jummai, why must you continuously humiliate and degrade your own dignity in front of this young girl? Given how much she respects you, you ought to maintain that respect. I honestly expected that as the senior wife, you would be the very first person to look after Aisha and support her through her condition. When I recall how passionately you used to wish for me to have a child in the past, I find your current behavior deeply contradictory. Instead of celebrating, you have completely neglected me and my affairs, acting as though you are at war with your Creator simply because He granted me a blessing. The only advice I will give you is to change your attitude and distance yourself from those wicked friends of yours—they will only lead you to ruin and abandon you there." She burst into bitter tears. "Oh, brilliant! Now you will say every vile thing that comes to your mouth to insult me, simply because my own womb could never carry your child!"
Aisha quickly intervened, "Please, Hajiya, forgive us. Uncle, please just return to the office, it's fine." Jummai turned on her, screaming fiercely, "Shut up, you manipulative witch! Don't you dare speak to me! Aren't you the sole reason my husband's character changed toward me? You went off to school, gathered a pregnancy from god-knows-where, and came back to pin it on him! And because he is so desperate for a child, he blindly accepted it with trembling hands! If you were truly capable of impregnating a wife, why didn't you give the pregnancy to Hadiza if I am deemed barren?!" He cut her off with a booming, thunderous shout. "Jummai, have you completely lost your mind?! What utter nonsense are you spewing?!" He firmly grabbed Aisha's hand. "This girl, as young as she is, is worth far more to me than all the older women I have ever married! This girl is the most precious and dignified woman in my entire sight! I am the one who got her pregnant, and since you’ve brought it up, let me make it crystal clear to you: on the very day I took her virginity, that exact same day my child was conceived in her womb! So guard your tongue, Jummai!"
She stormed out, ranting furiously, "Of course you would defend her! But I swear to God, I will never forgive how my scheduled nights are constantly stolen from me!"
Aisha sat there, leaning her chin on her hand in deep shock, wondering what kind of malicious slander this was. Tears began to stream rapidly from her eyes as he approached...
