She was holding her ice cream when she opened the door… who did she see if not Murad?
Her eyes widened in shock like someone who had just seen something terrifying.
“Yaya…” she said softly — and suddenly the ice cream fell completely from her hand and even stained his foot.
Her eyes widened further.
“Yaya, please forgive me…”
Before she could finish speaking, he landed his five fingers across her face in a hard slap. She staggered as if she would fall, but he quickly pulled her and she crashed into his chest.
Immediately, he felt that familiar electric shock rushing through his blood and veins — the same feeling he always experienced whenever their skin touched.
He quickly pushed her away and said in French:
“Comment oses-tu t’habiller de cette façon?”
(Who gave you permission to dress like this?)
Holding her cheek, she replied softly,
“Momy bought it for me when we went shopping.”
He slapped her again and said,
“Momy told me I’m the only one… and my Sweetbaby!”
She ran out of the room, leaving him standing there.
The maids, who had seen Murad earlier, had already disappeared quietly.
Murad went upstairs and entered one of the rooms. As soon as he closed the door, he leaned against it. His heart was burning strangely. Tears suddenly began to roll down his face — and he didn’t even know why.
He replayed the recent scene in his mind — the way she cried. That hurt him even more. No matter what, he hated seeing a woman cry, especially if he was the cause.
A voice in his heart said:
“What’s stopping you from going to comfort her? What if Allah holds you accountable for oppressing her? You’re the only one she knows here. She’s just a child.”
He remembered Fulani’s advice — to be patient with Maysam, to treat her kindly because she was an orphan.
He knew he would have to distance his heart before he could properly care for her — but he decided to try.
He quickly left his room and went to the one he thought she was in.
He found her curled up on the bed, crying heavily.
He sat beside her and said, “You…”
She quickly sat up, tears covering her face.
“Yes?”
He stretched out his hand.
“Come.”
She crawled toward him.
He lifted her onto his lap and wiped her tears.
“That’s enough crying.”
Then he said gently,
“Don’t you know you’re a married woman?”
She said shyly,
“I know…”
“Then why dress like that when there are men in this house?”
She replied,
“I thought they don’t come inside… and I’m not going out.”
He sighed.
“Fine. But be careful about what you wear. I hope you don’t dress like that at school.”
She said,
“No. Momy only bought it as a gift because I came second in class.”
He said,
“Alright. Tomorrow I’ll take you shopping. You can choose whatever you want since you did well — but next time try to come first. Then we’ll go home.”
She laughed happily at the thought of seeing Fulani again. Her small dimples appeared along with her bright white teeth. She looked so much like his Sweetbaby that before he realized it, he pulled her into a tight embrace.
He felt the electric shock again — but this time he held her even tighter until she let out a small cry and he loosened his grip.
She pulled away and said,
“Yaya… your clothes are wet. Won’t you change?”
He looked at her, then carried her and said,
“Let’s go so I can change.”
They entered his room. He told her to wait, then went to bathe and perform ablution because Maghrib prayer had begun.
When he came out, she had tried to tidy the bed but couldn’t spread the sheet properly because it was too big for her. She pouted.
He laughed, fixed it himself, and told her,
“Finish up and pray.”
She replied, “Okay.”
---
Later that night, after Isha prayer, he found her in the sitting room watching cartoons.
He thought to himself, She’s really just a child.
At dinner, the table was filled with all kinds of food — enough for ten people. He thought to himself how generous Allah is.
He called her to serve him because he never allowed maids to serve his food — only Momy.
She came reluctantly because she didn’t want to stop watching.
After eating, he joined her to watch TV. Eventually, they both fell asleep.
At around 11 pm, he carried her back to the room.
---
The Next Morning
She woke up before him and was surprised to find herself in his room. She performed ablution and prayed voluntary prayers before Fajr.
When he woke and saw her praying, he was shocked.
After Fajr prayer, they both recited Qur’an and dhikr together before resting again.
---
Later that day, he noticed her wearing English-style clothes without a scarf. Her beauty struck him. Her braided hair fell over her shoulders.
He quickly looked away as his heartbeat changed.
At breakfast, their eyes locked and he almost choked on his tea.
She was staring at him because she had never seen anyone as handsome as her “Yaya” Murad — he looked so much like her late father.
Later, they went shopping again. He bought her many clothes, perfumes, niqabs, socks, and more. He even took her to a children’s play area.
He thought to himself, This isn’t marriage. I’ve been given childcare instead.
---
When they returned home, she gifted perfume sets:
Two sets for Fulani and the King
One for her father
One for Murza
Fulani was overjoyed and prayed for her.
Murza, however, burned with jealousy.
---
Murad and Maysam became inseparable except at night.
Mahmud teased Murad, asking if he had fallen in love.
Murad denied it fiercely.
“There’s nothing lovable there — not her fairness, not her long nose, not her small mouth. She’s just a child.”
Mahmud laughed.
“Even a blind man could see how you look at her.”
Murad insisted he was only protecting the dignity of marriage.
---
Later, Waziri came and boldly asked Murad to marry his daughter.
Murad refused firmly in French:
“Non, je n’en ai pas besoin.”
(No, I don’t need it.)
He warned Waziri never to bring up that topic again.
Maysam felt hurt hearing it.
When Waziri left, she burst into tears and ran away.
Murad followed her and tried to comfort her with chocolates, sweets, even ice cream — but she refused everything.
Finally, he bathed her himself like a child and told her to bring him clothes.
She forgot and started playing with his phone instead.
When he woke and saw her on his phone, he scolded her.
She apologized sweetly.
When she tried to leave without a hijab, he stopped her.
She muttered under her breath that even in the other section people didn’t wear hijab inside.
He heard her and asked what she said.
She quickly changed her words to praise him.
He smiled because he had clearly heard her.
When she brought his clothes, she stood there watching him.
He said,
“Leave the room so I can change.”
She pouted and said:
“So you can look at me and even bathe me… but I can’t stay while you dress?”
