Courtroom Drama: The Investigation

The court session was tense, with people filling the hall, eager for the truth to be revealed. Barrister Haruna, representing the plaintiff, introduced himself. Zuwaira, initially refusing legal counsel, eventually raised her hand and asked the judge for a private reconciliation, fearing the public exposure of her secrets. The judge agreed to the request, provided that both Malam Sabo and Zuwaira—along with their parents or guardians—consented.
Malam Sabo initially refused but later agreed. The case was adjourned for four days to allow for private mediation.
At home, Zuwaira found Abida (her daughter, whom she had been passing off as a sister) in a sorry state, vomiting and soiled. Zuwaira berated her, refusing to take care of her. Sulaiman, Zuwaira’s son, finally confronted her, blaming her for their upbringing. He told her that she was the one who encouraged Abida to engage in prostitution when they were hungry, and now that Abida was suffering, she had discarded her. He warned her that God would hold her accountable for everything and that the court would expose her secrets.
When the case resumed after four days, Malam Sabo testified, accusing Zuwaira of adultery and questioning the paternity of her child. He presented medical evidence stating the child was not his. Zuwaira, in her defense, accused Malam Sabo of being an adulterer himself, claiming his neglect forced her into business and illicit affairs to survive. She admitted to being with multiple men and didn't know who the father of the child was. The judge was shocked by her lack of religious moral grounding.
Jafar was called to testify. He admitted to his involvement with Zuwaira, revealing that Abida (Zuwaira's daughter) had introduced them because he was a friend of her boyfriend. He admitted to everything, including the fact that he knew Zuwaira was married, but he claimed Zuwaira had initially lied to him. The judge ordered a DNA test, and the case was adjourned for two days, leaving Jafar sweating and anxious about the results.

Domestic Tension: Ammar, Salma, and Affanan

Ammar’s feelings for Affanan began to waver, struggling to understand the depth of the love she claimed to have for him. He wanted her to improve his household, but instead, she caused constant conflict.
Affanan insisted that Ammar take her to visit his other wife, Salma’s house, and her family. Ammar eventually agreed. During the visit, there was an awkward exchange between the wives. Affanan behaved disrespectfully, leading to a confrontation. Ammar remained silent, unable to control the situation.
Later, Salma and Ammar shared a tender moment, with Ammar expressing his desire for children and asking Salma to stay away from stressful situations. However, the peace was shattered when Affanan entered uninvited, causing another scene. Salma told Affanan she was not welcome in her home. Ammar eventually removed Affanan, but the incident left Salma deeply unhappy.
To mend things, Ammar brought gifts (clothing and jewelry) for Salma and asked her to take some to his mother. Salma, showing her character, decided to include gifts for Affanan as well, despite the previous conflict.

Salma’s Act of Grace

Salma asked Ammar to take her to see Garba, the man who had caused them so much suffering. Ammar was hesitant but ultimately agreed. They found Garba in a pathetic state—sick, emaciated, and abandoned by everyone.
While Ammar remained bitter and unforgiving, Salma showed incredible maturity. She told Garba, "I have forgiven you. May God forgive us all." She even provided money for his medicine. As they left, Salma wept, telling Ammar that the world is merely an illusion and that they must forgive to find peace. Ammar, however, did not share her sentiment of forgiveness.
The story ends with Ammar delivering a package from Salma to Affanan, while he struggles internally with his complex marriage and the weight of the events surrounding them.
