The next day, Friday! After performing the Sallah prayer, he completed his ablution and returned home with Fu’ad. They greeted Mama and then went to the BQ where Fu’ad’s room was. While entering, Rayyan went back to his bed, fiddling with his phone. Then he got up, sat properly, and looked at Fu’ad.
“Today’s a short day, and I’m planning to go to the office. Now, if I shower here, I don’t even know what I’ll wear. So, I think I’ll just go home,” Rayyan said.
Fu’ad replied, “Stay and have breakfast with us first. If you want, we can leave together; I can drop you off.”
Rayyan stayed quiet, thinking about how entering the house now would be awkward—especially since Mummy was home. He preferred coming when she wasn’t around, so that if she wanted, she could meet him. Remembering that his clothes were at the laundry, he stood and told Fu’ad, “I’ll take your car keys and go pick up my clothes from the laundry.”
“Here are the keys?” Fu’ad handed them over, and Rayyan took them and left.
Ammi peeked into Leena’s room and saw her still lying down. “Leena, school? Aren’t you going? You’re getting up and going back?”
Leena sat up, rubbing her eyes. “Ammi, I won’t be going to school today.”
Already, Ammi had finished preparing her lunch box, but she still glanced at Leena lying down and asked, “Leena, are you feeling okay today?” She lifted the duvet, touched her, and felt warmth. “You’re not well?”
Leena nodded. “I can’t go to school today.”
Ammi said, “Alright then, let the doctor handle it if needed; there’s no need to rush to the hospital.” She adjusted Leena, covered her, and went back to her chores.
Husna entered her brother’s room, hoping to see Rayyan, holding a tray with breakfast she had brought. She looked up at her brother and asked, “Yaya, where’s Rayyan?”
Rayyan glanced at her and gave a sharp look. “What kind of girl are you? You think acting like this will impress him? Look, Rayyan despises girls with your attitude. I’m warning you, if he comes back and sees you here doing this, I could punish you.”
Husna shot him a look and was about to leave when Rayyan entered, greeting her. She stepped back, smiled, and returned his greeting. “No lectures today?” she asked, surprised.
“10 a.m. is the lecture time,” he replied without adding anything further, then walked to the bathroom. After getting ready, he came out. Fu’ad looked at him and said, “You finished using my cologne? You’re overdoing it with the spraying!”
Rayyan said, “I didn’t use much, don’t worry.”
Nisreen and Niswa came out to the front of the house and got into the car. Nisreen asked, “Anty, isn’t Leena coming? I thought she had prepared already today.”
Niswa replied, “What does it matter to you? The driver is here, and we’re leaving.” Nisreen quickly covered her mouth with her hands and said, “Did you forget what Yaya said?”
“She hasn’t yet said anything about hitting her or stopping her from going early,” Niswa reminded her. Just then, the driver arrived. Nisreen told him, “We’re leaving now.”
“Okay, I see you’re all ready,” he said. “Do exactly as I told you.” He got into the car, started it, and they left the house.
While having breakfast on the way, Rayyan’s phone rang. He checked and saw it was Ammi calling. He declined the call but then called her back. She answered and said, “Are you leaving now, Rayyan?”
He hesitated, then asked, “What is it, Ammi?”
“I just wanted to check on Leena since she’s not feeling well,” she said.
“I’m on my way; I’ll check on her,” he replied.
Together with Fu’ad, they left; Fu’ad would drop him off. On the way, near the neighborhood entrance, they almost collided with Mummy’s car, but Rayyan didn’t notice as his mind was on something else. He was relieved when they didn’t meet at the house, as he feared Mummy might prevent him from checking on Leena at the gate.
Fu’ad parked, and Rayyan said, “Thanks, man. We’ll call later.”
“Okay, say hi to Mummy for me,” Fu’ad replied.
Rayyan entered the house, greeting the security guards along the way, and went straight to Leena’s part of the house. He arrived at the parlour entrance, greeted Ammi, and she responded, “Come in.”
He entered and found her lying down. Gently touching her, he felt she was very hot. “Ammi, since when has she been feeling unwell?”
Ammi replied, “She said since last night, but only told me this morning. I didn’t take it seriously until she started vomiting. She’s done it three times now.”
Rayyan looked at Leena and asked, “Where does it hurt?” She pointed with her hand to the spots where she felt pain.
He stood and said to Ammi, “I’ll go get the medicine and necessary items.” She agreed. As he passed Daddy in the parlour, he greeted him. “Have you checked Leena?” Daddy asked.
“Yes, now I’m going to fetch the required medicine and fluid,” Rayyan replied. Daddy nodded.
Rayyan went to the room, grabbed the injections he had prepared, and entered Leena’s room. She was still asleep. Smiling, he carefully lifted her face to check her temperature. “Leena, don’t pretend to be sleeping. I know you too well.”
She smiled, sat up, and teasingly said, “I don’t think I need the injection; I feel fine, Yaya Rain.”
He stared at her. “Baby girl, this will be the last injection. Exams are coming, so I want you healthy to do well.”
She pouted but allowed him to administer it. After the injection, he comforted her and placed her back to rest. In the parlour, Ammi was sitting.
“Done?” she asked.
“Yes, Alhamdulillah, she’s feeling better,” he replied.
Around 2 p.m., after returning from the office, Rayyan checked on Leena again and noticed her fever had slightly reduced. He called Nisreen and Niswa to get ready for a shopping trip. Excited, they got into the car. Rayyan first went to the mall, picked Leena’s favorite perfume, chocolates, and other items she liked. Then he took them to Ice Cream Heaven, letting them choose whatever they wanted. He also bought Leena country yogurt and pizza, knowing Mummy loved them.
On returning home around Maghrib, Rayyan helped deliver the items to their respective rooms. Seeing Leena sitting by her door, he went over to her.
Mummy and her friend, whom she was accompanying, met Nisreen at the parlour entrance. “Ah, I wasn’t asking about you two, Mummy,” they said, smiling and greeting. Rayyan looked at Leena, who blushed.
“Have you eaten?” he asked. She shook her head. “Why not?” he asked.
“I can’t eat,” she replied shyly.
Seeing them, he handed Leena the shopping items. When she received them, he checked her forehead for fever. Her friend noticed and said, “Isn’t this Agolan girl?” Mummy explained, and there was a brief discussion about Leena’s growth and stature compared to Niswa.
Rayyan’s attention was on Leena’s well-being, checking her temperature and giving injections as needed. Ammi and Hajiya were present, assisting him and supervising, ensuring she got the proper care. Rayyan left only after Leena was comfortable and stable.
Later, they discussed Rayyan’s engagement plans. Mummy asked Daddy if he had discussed the matter with Rayyan, and he reassured her that it was being handled. Rayyan, meanwhile, explained he had decided to postpone his engagement because the girl had changed significantly and he wanted to focus on her wellbeing and exams first.
The next day, Saturday, Ammi went about her morning prayers, helping Leena wake up for Sallah. Leena reported feeling better, with no pain, and chose to eat the ice cream Rayyan had bought her the previous day. Rayyan visited her, checked her vitals, and administered any remaining injections.
